Custom Fit Hearing Aids

Custom Fit Hearing is an independent practice with more than 30 years of experience. That means that our patients and their needs come first. Some practices are tied to specific brands and can only fit patients with those hearing aids, but we have the flexibility and freedom to fit patients with hearing aids from any manufacturer. Our only concern is whether the hearing aids are right for you.

Today's hearing aids come in many different styles and at many different price points, and we have a solid knowledge of just about everything on the market. When you come to Custom Fit Hearing, we take the time to understand not only your hearing loss but also what you need out of a hearing aid. Whether you spend a lot of time outdoors, prefer one-on-one conversations at home, or like to keep up with the latest technology, there's a hearing aid out there to suit your lifestyle.

Hearing Aid Brands

We can and will fit our patients with any hearing aid that we think will address their hearing loss and their needs. Right now, our two favorite hearing aid manufacturers are Starkey and Oticon. We strive to keep up-to-date on the latest technological advancements, and these two manufacturers are on the cutting edge. Oticon delivers some of the top hearing aids in the world, and Starkey was the first company to offer direct iPhone connectivity, although Oticon now offers iPhone technology too.

We've been working with hearing aids so long that we're even able to service hearing aids from brands we don't typically carry, so if you're traveling or you moved here from out of town and you need help with your hearing aids, we can help.

Hearing Aid Models

Hearing aids come in different shapes and sizes, each with its own benefits. Choosing a hearing aid model is a matter of personal preference, lifestyle, and the severity of your hearing loss. We'll take all of these elements into consideration when we suggest a hearing aid model for you. Price is determined by technology level rather than model, so don't worry that smaller hearing aids will cost more — we'll pick the model that suits you and then find a level of technology that fits your budget. We offer completely-in-canal (CIC), in-the-canal (ITC), in-the-ear (ITE), behind-the-ear (BTE), and receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids.

Our specialty is custom-fit hearing aids that actually fit inside your ear. These models are especially small and hard-to-see, and they're a fantastic choice for people who are very active, play sports, or spend time outdoors. Hearing aids that fit entirely inside your ear will stay safely and securely whether you're jogging down the field or walking through the trees. Some hearing aid specialists shy away from custom-fit hearing aids because they require specialized skills and can be challenging to make correctly, but our expertise means we avoid the problems that might worry other providers. If you are interested in a model that will sit inside your ear, Custom Fit Hearing is the right practice for you.

These days, many patients also enjoy receiver-in-canal (RIC) products, which are still quite discreet and deliver particularly good acoustic quality. We are happy to fit patients with these models as well.

Hearing Aid Technology

Price differences in hearing aids come from the different levels of technology. If you need a simpler hearing aid that provides amplification and basic noise cancellation, you'll have a lower price point than if you'd rather have cutting-edge technology that reduces the sound of your own voice and handles more complex situations. We'll find a compromise between your needs and your budget to make sure you can hear as well as possible.

One of the most important changes we've seen in our decades with hearing aids has been the recent introduction of Bluetooth connectivity. These days you can connect your hearing aids directly to your iPhone, iPad, or your TV. Some hearing aids are also able to communicate with Android phones.

This technology makes hearing devices more versatile; you can make changes to your hearing aids on the fly just using an app on your phone. It's also revolutionized the experience for patients who haven't been able to comfortably use the phone or watch TV for years.

We're glad to provide the EarQ brand, which includes the best hearing aid warranty available, the EarQ Secure 4-Year Warranty. The warranty also allows you to have your devices served at any EarQ provider, nationwide. Ask us about this during your appointment!

Caring for Your Hearing Aids

Taking good care of your hearing aids will extend their lives and also mean that you have the best hearing experience you can for the life of the hearing aids. That means keeping them clean and dry. Never wear your hearing aids while swimming or in the shower, and store them overnight somewhere dry, not a humid space like a bathroom. We will show you how to clean your hearing aid and change the battery, and we'll also give your hearing aids a thorough cleaning every time you come to see us. Hearing aid life expectancy varies from patient to patient. With proper care, your hearing aids should last anywhere between three and seven years — probably longer than it would take before your hearing changes enough to need a new set anyway!

Hearing aids are stronger and more durable than they used to be, and it's much easier to change batteries, too. Some hearing aids come with special devices to assist you in changing batteries, and they give an audible indication when the batteries are low. Some hearing aids are rechargeable, so if you're concerned about being able to change your batteries due to vision or dexterity challenges, let us know and we'll check whether you're a good candidate for rechargeable hearing aids.
